How many plus size doctors do you know?

I am 24 and in about a month I am returning back to school from a 6 year break. Pre-Med will be my major. I've never been a weight watcher, because I've never had to be. Now that I have really made the decision to get into school on the path of medicine I see this COULD be an issue. I really don't have a problem with it, but will be peers have a problem with me being plus size?

read this blog about an obese doc.

I work with a plus size doctor. If they have a problem, it's THEIR problem.

Size doesnt matter.. as long as you know what youre doing. Now if you were a plus size dietecian..that might look funny.. but really it doesnt matter..you dont have to be slim to be educated

I know maybe a couple. But 95% of the dr.s here seem pretty fit and thin.

Ive never seen one, that would worry me kind of… I'm going to that person for my health and they are not even healthy themselves… it's like seeing a doctor who smokes… what up with that?

if you don't care no one else should either its all in how you feel about yourself watch some of the shows on tv there are overweight doctors on there too, and I've dealt with plenty of heavy doctors in my day its not a big deal if you don't make it one it doesn't matter if you are size 2 or 24 if your a good doctor who cares

I won't ask what size you are cos I think that's too personal however, it does depend on how big you are. If you're a few pounds overweight then I don't see that being in issue. However, I live in the UK and I know that one of the requirements to get into med school is that a person is physically (and mentally) healthy because if you're more overweight then you're more at risk of diabetes, heart disease etc etc.

It could be a problem. To be a doctor you are pushing a healthy lifestyle of living to your patients and yet if they see you as being overweight it may not sink in. If you can get into shape that would be much better. It will make certain lifestyle changes discussions that you may have with some of your patients easier for them to swallow.

I think it is just you see the health risks of being overweight. To be honest I wouldn't trust an overweight doctor. I guess it is the opposite of don't trust a skinny chef.

many, i actually prefer them because i am plus size, and i feel more comfortable with a plus size doctor because they won't lecture me about being so large
